Extra Sites provide flexible publishing capacity beyond the number of live sites included in your plan. You do not need to decide how many you will need in advance. Billing is based on how many live sites remain above your plan limit when the bill is generated, so you can stay focused on publishing instead of planning capacity ahead of time.

What counts as an Extra Site?

Each plan includes a set number of live published sites. Any live site above that included limit counts as an Extra Site. Current Extra Sites = current live published sites - included site quota When this result is greater than 0, each site above your included allowance counts as 1 Extra Site. This means:
  • Republishing, updating, or redeploying a site that is already live does not create a new Extra Site.
  • A new Extra Site is only created when a newly published site pushes you above your plan limit.
  • Once a site is unpublished, it no longer counts toward your current Extra Site usage.
  • Extra Sites are always based on your current live overflow, not the total number of sites you have ever published.
ScenarioDoes it create an Extra Site? Why
Your plan includes 3 sites, and 3 sites are currently liveNoYou are still within your included allowance
You publish a 4th live siteYes, 1 Extra SiteYou are now above your plan limit
You update the same 4th live siteNoIt is still the same live site
You unpublish the 4th siteNo longer countedYour current Extra Site usage returns to 0
Think of Extra Sites as flexible hosting capacity beyond your plan, not as a fixed bundle you need to buy in advance.

How Extra Site billing works

Before you read a bill, there are only three things to check:
  1. Whether your base subscription is Monthly or Yearly
  2. If your base subscription is yearly, whether Extra Site billing is set to Monthly or Yearly
  3. How many sites are still above your included limit when the bill is generated
Most Extra Site charges are made up of two parts:
  • Previous-cycle new charges: the prorated cost of newly added Extra Sites from the last billing cycle. Each newly added Extra Site is charged as site monthly price ÷ days in the month × actual hosted days, then added together.
  • Next-cycle renewal: the renewal cost for the Extra Sites that are still above your included limit at the next billing point.
Your subscriptionWhen Extra Site charges appearWhat the bill includes

Yearly subscription + Extra Sites billed monthlyEvery monthPrevious-cycle new charges + next month’s Extra Site renewal
Yearly subscription + Extra Sites billed yearlyWhen new Extra Sites are added during the monthPrevious-cycle new charges + renewal for the newly added Extra Sites through the end of the current annual term

Monthly subscriptions

  • You can add Extra Sites at any time. There is no need to pre-purchase a fixed number first.
  • New Extra Sites are not billed immediately as a separate invoice during the month. They are billed at your subscription renewal.
  • At renewal, the Extra Site count is recalculated based on how many live sites are still above your included limit, and only the capacity that is still needed is renewed.
Monthly renewal bill = previous-cycle new charges + next month's subscription fee + next month's Extra Site renewal

Yearly subscriptions

  • You can add Extra Sites at any time during your annual term.
  • In Extra Site Hosting Settings, you can choose whether Extra Sites are billed Monthly or Yearly.
  • The billing setting that is active when the invoice is generated determines how the charge is billed. Monthly is the default.

You can read the bill asPrevious-cycle new charges + next month’s Extra Site renewalPrevious-cycle new charges + renewal for the newly added Extra Sites through the end of the current annual term, with the annual discount applied
Yearly does not mean billing waits until your annual subscription expires. It means that when new Extra Sites are added, the newly added portion can be billed up front through the end of your current annual term. Once that yearly invoice is paid, that portion stays valid through the end of the current annual term and does not appear again on the next month’s bill. If you add more Extra Sites later, only the newly added portion generates another yearly invoice.
If an Extra Site invoice is not paid on time, any sites above your included limit may be taken offline. While the invoice remains unpaid, additional Extra Sites cannot be published.

Plan upgrades

1. Does the target plan already cover your current live sites?

  • If the target plan covers all currently published sites, no further Extra Site charges apply.
  • If the target plan still does not cover all live sites, the Extra Site count is recalculated and only two parts remain billable: previous-cycle new charges and ongoing renewal.
  • Previous-cycle new charges are calculated using the monthly unit price of your current plan.

2. How is the target plan’s included capacity applied to current Extra Sites?

  • During the upgrade, the included capacity from the target plan is applied to your currently published sites first.
  • That offset is applied in order of publish duration, with longer-running Extra Sites covered first.
  • Any Extra Sites absorbed by the target plan’s included allowance are not charged as previous-cycle new charges.

Plan downgrades

  • After a downgrade, any live sites above the number included in the target plan count as Extra Sites and create additional charges.
  • Previous-cycle Extra Site charges use the price of your current plan. Any Extra Sites that remain in use after the downgrade renew at the target plan price.

Situations where no additional charge is created

If the extra capacity was only temporary and the site is unpublished before the bill is generated, that unused capacity is released, which helps avoid unnecessary extra charges. For previous-cycle new charges, billing only starts once the hosting duration is more than 3 days. Very short-term use usually does not create an additional charge.
When you upgrade while you are already over the limit, the included capacity from the target plan is applied first. Longer-running Extra Sites are offset first.Any Extra Sites absorbed by the new plan’s included allowance are not charged as previous-cycle new charges.

How to view Extra Sites

On the Subscription page, the Usage Overview section shows Extra Site usage in two rows:
Subscription page showing Included Site Hosting as Live and Total, and Extra Site Hosting as Live and Paid
  • Included Site Hosting shows Live / Total
  • Extra Site Hosting shows Live / Paid
You can read those numbers like this:
ItemWhat it means
Included Site Hosting LiveLive sites that are still covered by the included allowance in your current plan
Included Site Hosting TotalThe total number of sites included in your current plan
Extra Site Hosting LiveLive sites that are above your included allowance and are currently using Extra Site capacity
Extra Site Hosting PaidTotal Extra Site capacity you have already paid for, including capacity currently in use and paid capacity that is not being used yet
If Extra Site Hosting shows 3 Live / 5 Paid, it means 3 over-limit sites are currently live, and 5 units of Extra Site capacity have already been paid for in total. The remaining 2 are still available and are applied first the next time you publish above your plan allowance.
If you are on a yearly subscription, the Extra Site Hosting row also includes a Setting entry. From there, you can choose whether Extra Sites are billed Monthly or Yearly.

Common questions

Only when the number of live published sites is greater than the number included in your plan. As long as you stay within your plan’s included allowance, no Extra Site usage is counted.
No. Republishing, updating, or redeploying a site that is already live still counts as the same published site, so it does not create another Extra Site.
Live shows how many Extra Sites are currently being used by live over-limit sites. Paid shows how much Extra Site capacity you have already paid for in total. If Paid is higher than Live, paid capacity is still available and is applied first the next time you publish above your included limit.
Those two lines represent different things. Previous-cycle new charges settle Extra Sites that were newly added during the last billing cycle, using prorated actual usage. Next-cycle renewal covers the Extra Sites you still want to keep above your included limit at the next billing point. It is not double billing. One part covers newly added usage from the last cycle, and the other covers the capacity you are keeping into the next cycle.
Usually not. If a temporary site is unpublished before the bill is generated, that unused capacity is released so it does not create unnecessary additional charges. For previous-cycle new charges, billing only starts once the hosting duration is more than 3 days. Very short-term use usually does not create an extra charge.
Not necessarily. At each billing point, the Extra Site count is based on how many live sites still exceed your plan’s included allowance. If you no longer need the unused portion before the next billing point, that unused capacity is released, which helps avoid additional charges.
Choose Monthly if you want Extra Sites to be billed month by month and prefer the most flexible option. Choose Yearly if you expect those Extra Sites to remain in use and want the annual discount through the end of your current annual term.
Yes. If the target plan fully covers your currently published sites, no further Extra Site charges apply. If you already paid for Extra Sites before the upgrade, that paid capacity is also credited so the same capacity is not charged twice.
No. If you upgrade to a higher-tier plan with more included sites at that point, the previous-cycle new charges generated by the newly added Extra Site are waived, so you do not need to pay them separately.
Previous-cycle Extra Site charges use the price of your current plan, because that usage already happened before the downgrade. Ongoing renewal after the downgrade uses the price of the target plan.
If an Extra Site invoice is not paid on time, sites above your included limit may be taken offline. While the invoice remains unpaid, additional Extra Sites cannot be published.
